About Jessica Grass, RP

Jessica Grass, MST, M.Ed. is a Registered Psychotherapist who specializes in providing therapy for people, like young adults, facing important life transitions. She helps people who are at an impasse in their journeys to proactively take their mental health into their own hands. There is a way forward – and Jessica can help you find it.

Her goal, always, is to help people understand themselves more deeply – not just who you’ve always been, but who you want to be. She will help you use that self-knowledge to rewrite the story you tell yourself and others about your life.

Jessica has her Masters degree in Counselling from Ottawa University, and is both a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) and a Canadian Certified Counsellor. She comes to psychotherapy from a successful career in education.

“I urge people to think of counselling
as an opportunity to build resilience and understanding of oneself before they reach a crisis point in their life.”

– Jessica Grass, M.Ed, CCC, RP

My Approach: Narrative Therapy & CBT

I draw deeply from strength-based and client-centered approaches to psychotherapy. I believe that every client comes to me already having a solid foundation of unique strengths that they can build on. I work with my clients to help them to find their own strengths and inner wisdom to draw from as we move through our work together. I will work collaboratively with you to create an individualized treatment plan and find the best way forward.

I often use Narrative Therapy in my work with clients. Using Narrative therapy, I help you to externalize the problems you’re facing. The problems and concerns in your life are just one storyline, and they don’t reflect your full truth. I help you to create an alternative story about your life that includes your strengths and true nature.

I also rely heavily on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, or CBT, an evidence-based treatment method. CBT helps people to see that their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are all connected. If you can reframe irrational thinking about the events in your life, then you can start to manage the strong emotions.

Some other evidence-based practices that I use are Brief Solution-Focused Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and attachment theory.
